National Institute for Occupational Health and Poison Control

The National Institute for Occupational Health and Poison Control was established in 1954 ,redesignated from the former health and epidemic prevention station in Northeast of China. At the mean time, it was the first institute at the state level founded by the Central Government of China. Several former names were used at different stages, such as Institute of Occupational Health before 1983, National Institute of Occupational Medicine affiliated to Chinese Center of Preventive Medicine and Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine during 1983-1986.  
  Over the years, the National Institute for Occupational Health and Poison Control has taken solving technical issues of national major occupational health and poison control as its duty and has been dedicated to protect and promote laborers' health. The mission of the institute includes occupational diseases prevention and control ,poisoning emergency disposal, scientific research and educational training. It has carried out many national scientific and technical key research projects from the 6th to 12th national Five-Year Plan and many other important research projects, such as “973” and “863”. It has also implemented a series of activities related to prevention of occupational diseases. The Institute has made great achievements in the field of prevention and treatment of pneumoconiosis, control of chemical poison, pesticide poisoning prevention ,industrial toxicology, surveillance of workers’health,diagnostic standards for occupational diseases and occupational health.
