Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (briefly as China CDC) is a governmental and national-level technical organization specialized on disease control and prevention and public health. Its mission is to create a safe and healthy environment, maintain social stability, ensure national security and promote the health of people through prevention and control of disease, injury and disability. Devoted itself to disease control and prevention, it sticks to relying on scientific research and values talent as fundamental element.
　　 
　　Under the leadership of National Health Commission, China CDC exerts its function in technical guidance and support of public health. Focusing on the key tasks of national disease prevention and control, China CDC studies on the strategies and measures for disease prevention and control, organizing and implementing the work plan for various kinds of disease prevention and control. It takes care of management of public health services, including food safety, occupational safety, health related product safety, radiological health, environmental health, as well as women and children’s health. China CDC forcefully carries out operational researches, and enhances technical instruction, training and quality controls in national disease prevention and control, as well as in public health service and plays the leading role nationwide in disease prevention and control, health emergency response and capacity building of public health information.
　　 
　　 
　　By the end of 2016, China CDC has 2120 staff with 1876 technical professionals (accounting for 89%), 133 managerial staff (accounting for 6%), and 111 logistic staff (accounting for 5%).
　　 
　　 

　　Postgraduate education in China CDC began in 1984. At present, China CDC offers a variety of degree programs, including two doctoral degree programs of the First level Discipline (Basic Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine), and eight Doctoral and Master's degree programs of the Second-level Disciplines,including immunology, pathogenic biology, radiology, epidemiology and statistics, occupational and environmental health, nutrition and food hygiene, child health and maternal and child health care, health toxicology as well as Master of Public Health degree programs (MPH). Among them, pathogenic biology has been listed as the Beijing key discipline. 　　Up to March, 2017, China CDC has 258 advisers composed of 76 doctoral supervisors, including 5 academicians (2 of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 3 of Chinese Academy of Engineering),154 master advisors and 28 MPH advisors. There are 582 postgraduate students ( 169 full-time PHD candidates and 275 full-time master degree students, and 138 part-time MPH students), doctor's degrees and 2,203 master’s degrees (including 1,623 research-based and 580 MPH) have been conferred. 　　China CDC runs two post-doctoral research centers covering areas of basic medicine, and public health and preventive medicine. By now, 184 post-doctoral professionals have completed their research and 27 are studying in the centers. 　　Since 2007, a joint public health professional training delivery program between China CDC and Griffith University, Australia has set up and 58 public health professionals in 5 teams have been sponsored and got training in Australia, and 33 students have got their master’s degree awarded by Griffith University. 　　During 2002-2016, China CDC held 822 courses of national continuing education program and the number of trainees reached to 96,000. Out of them, national training center of continuing education program on communicable disease control and prevention held 132 courses with nearly 15000 trainees. 　　In the period of 2001-2017, Chinese Field Epidemiology Training Program (CFETP) recruited 331 trainees totally in 16 courses with 248 graduates. Two courses of Field Epidemiology Training Program recruited 81 trainees and 40 of them have graduated. They become key talents of CDCs of different levels. 　　

　　Office of Laboratory Management was established in April 2005, whose main responsibility is to establish and improve the laboratory safety management system of CDC, standardize laboratory safety management; supervise inspect and guide the safety management work of hazardous chemicals and nuclear radiation; organize and coordinate the work of accreditation of laboratory; as well as the work of administration of experimental animals; conduct the laboratory safety management technical training and academic exchanges of national CDCs network and assist the National Health and Family Planning Commission to carry out laboratory safety management work.
　　

　　The Public Health Emergency Center (PHEC) of the China CDC takes charge of national public health emergency preparedness and response activities. The mission of PHEC is to strengthen the capacity building and system preparedness to effectively prevent, control and respond to various public health emergencies, and to protect public health and reduce public health as well as socio-economic impacts of emergencies by preparing systematically for public health threats and responding effectively to public health emergencies, including natural or human-made disasters, outbreaks of infectious diseases, group poisoning, and mass gathering.
　　

　　The National Center for Public Health Surveillance and Information Service aims at supporting the modernization of business by applying the information technology. It holds two major functions: public health information resource management as well as information technology support and service. It not only takes charge of China CDC internal information construction and management , but also undertakes the construction, application, management, services and sharing of both public health information resources and big data. It provides technical support for the planning , construction and operations of national disease control and prevention information systems. In addition to coordination with affiliated institutions directly, it instructs Chinese CDCs at all levels in information construction . Besides , it works on related scientific researches and training. Initiated in 2004, the Infectious Diseases and Public Health Emergencies Reporting System has become a landmark project in the public health informatics domain.
　　

　　In April 2011, the Policy Research Office of Public Health was renamed the Center for Policy Research and Health Communication, consisting of three offices for policy research, health education, media and communications. In terms of policy research, the center provides scientific basis for policy formulation of public health-related laws, regulations, rules, criteria and disease control plans etc, and it conducts macro and micro policy researches through multiple dimensions of domestic and foreign, national and local, clinical medicine and prevention and so forth. The research contents include public health regulations, systems, economy, management and human resources etc. 
　　It also organizes CDCs cultural construction work, and coordinate health standards work for each committee. In terms of health communication, it is responsible for organizing, coordinating national CDCs network to carry out health education and health promotion, as well as corresponding theoretical research, training, and international exchange. The center is committed to establishing the mechanism of routine media liaison and emergency risk communication, and to making use of traditional and new media in publishing, and disseminating health information actively. It develops a series of promotional material for health knowledge, guides the public to set up correct concepts of health and forms healthy behaviors. The experts of China CDC are arranged to be interviewed by the media nearly 200 times each year,and in 2015, the media made 1740 reports sourced from China CDC.
　　

　　12320 Health Hotline was established by National Health and Family Planning Commission (the former Ministry of Health) at the end of 2005. The main responsibilities of 12320 Health Hotline are to promote health-related laws, regulations and policies to the public; popularize health knowledge and skills; accept inquires, complaints and reports from public; guide scientific medication; carry out smoking cessation counseling and intervention; monitor, analyze and make feedback of public opinions during public health emergencies. There are 28 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) using 12320 Health Hotline, covering about 960 million people. It is gradually developing into a comprehensive service platform which combines telephone with voice, website, SMS, micro-blogging, mobile platforms and the self-service terminal. In 2013, the incoming calls of 12320 amounted to 2.27 million totally, which increased by 75.1% compared with 2012., The growth rates all exceed 75% in two consecutive years. 　　To strengthen the organization and leadership, National Health and Family Planning Commission decided to colocate the leading office and national management center of 12320 Hotline in China CDC. Now, this institution is responsible for the construction, supervision, organization and coordination of national 12320 Health Hotline service system. Its main work includes system planning, IT application construction, new media services, advocacy and training, emergency responses and monitoring of public opinions and international cooperation. 　　

　　The Ofiice of Epidemiology was established on October 10, 2005.. The office is dedicated to provide epidemiology services for disease control and public health work, through academic exchange, training, technical support, applied research and international cooperation based on the epidemiological theories, concepts, tools and modern methodology.
　　

Tobacco Control Office (TCO) consists of four divisions:policy, monitoring and intervention, administration. Its functions are shown as follows: 1) assisting the National Health and Family Planning Commission to advance implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and to promote tobacco control in China; 2) assisting related departments to develop and implement national plan for tobacco control, develop tobacco control standards and guidelines, establish surveillance and evaluation system of tobacco prevalence, exposure to second-hand smoke and effectiveness of FCTC policies; 3) providing scientific evidence and policy consultation for enacting tobacco control laws, regulations, standards and plans etc; 4) assisting the National Health and Family Planning Commission to establish national tobacco control network and to build the capacity of tobacco control professionals; 5) implementing, managing and evaluating national/international tobacco control initiatives as well as related exchange activities.

　　Office of Health Standards, one of the administrative departments of Chinese Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, was founded on July, 2016. It is responsible for the coordination and management of 10 health standards professional committee of public health and other health standards. 10 health standards professional committee of public health includes infectious disease, parasitic disease, endemic disease,nutrition, vector control, occupational health, radiological health, environmental health, school health and disinfection.
　　It is responsible for appraisal services for health standards, review and submission of health standards materials for approval,organization of preliminary study for health standards, publicity and training of essential health standards, implementation and effect evaluation of health standards, public opinion monitoring of health standards, special health standards researches and international exchanges and cooperation, etc.
　　

　　The Center for Global Public Health (CGPH) was established in August 2016 with the main responsibility of achieving China’s global health strategy, implementing the national public health aid mission, and planning and managing international public health cooperation projects. 
　　Through dispatching experts, technical cooperation, emergency response and foreign aid projects, CGPH has been working in the following areas: supporting the construction of Africa CDC, improving public health capacity in Sierra Leone and other African countries, protecting health security in the Belt and Road Initiative, building the capacity of national public health aid teams, and strengthening international cooperation. Since its establishment, CGPH has managed and implemented foreign aid mission assigned by the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Commerce, as well as international cooperation projects funded by the United Kingdom Department for International Development and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
